  The Mattress Underground: I went to Latexpedic/Electropedic Beds in Burbank California today and took a half an hour to test out some TALALAY beds and chat with the sales rep. It was a good experience all around. The rep seemed very knowledgable about the materials (100% TALALAY from Latex International) and the ILD numbers and thicknesses. Their mattresses feel pretty wonderful.
  
Latex as found in nature is a milky fluid found in 10% of all flowering plants. In most plants, latex is white.  Since the 17th century, latex has been used as a term for the fluid substance in plants. Originally, the name given to latex by indigenous Equator tribes who cultivated the plant was “caoutchouc”, from the words “caa” (tear) and “ochu” (tree), because of the way it is collected.   The major commercial source of natural rubber latex is the Pará rubber tree, Hevea brasiliensis.  This species is preferred because it grows well under cultivation. A properly managed tree responds to wounding by producing more latex for several years.

It is completely reversible, quilted on both sides with handles, comes with a beautiful, soft bamboo covering, and has 1" of softer latex on both top and bottom (surrounding a 6" center core) and comes in your choice of (4) four different mattress firmnesses: Plush, Regular Firm, Extra Firm and Ultra Firm.  CENTER CORE: 6" OF PURE TALALAY LATEX SUPPORT: SOFT (28 ILD 6" CENTER CORE), REGULAR FIRM (32 ILD 6" CENTER CORE), EXTRA FIRM (36 ILD 6" CENTER CORE) and ULTRA FIRM (44 ILD 6" CENTER CORE)   1" of SOFTER latex is put on BOTH SIDES of the center core.

Latex is white and milky in appearance, has an elastic consistency, and is removed from the tree through a process called "rubber tapping" - similar to tapping trees for maple syrup. Just two centuries ago, the Havea Brasillienis treee was exclusive to the AmAz.on Rainforest. Today, Latexpedic Foam comes from tropical climates around the world.
